UV-US-Ozone Reactors

Highly Effective water treatment through ASM’s Advanced Technology Reactor Process.

Environmentally friendly as there are no pollutants associated with this method of water treatment.

The combination of an UV-Ultrasonic-Ozone system results in a very reliable process that is also easy to manage and is adjustable for various water supply characteristics. The removal efficiency of the combined processes is typically better than the removal efficiencies of Ultrasonic, UV and Ozone alone. Organic oxidation (reduction) occurs from reactions with ultrasonic cavitation, hydroxyl radicals, molecular ozone and/or by direct UV exposure.

The process, as it applies is a function of time and the intensity of Ultrasonic and UV combined with Ozone to which the water/fluid is exposed.

ASMR series water treatment chambers or ‘reactors’ are the next generation technology for the in line disinfection of water for applications such as aquaculture, horticulture, recreational swimming pools and dairy and other food industries.

In line treatment chambers have typically relied on ultraviolet (UV) radiation with or without the ozone (O3) injection for the removal of bacteria and TOC.

Unfortunately UV alone, with or without O3, is not effective against Cryptosporidium, a major source of concern for many industries that are dependant on ’clean’ water.

ASMR series reactors add High Power Ultrasonic Processing (HPUP) to the decontamination process by incorporating a series of high‐power ultrasonic transducers along the length of the disinfection chamber, producing a very violent “killing zone” within the chamber (reactor) that destroys Cryptosporidium oocysts, as well as VHO and enteric viruses.

The combination of ultrasonic and ultraviolet processes in ASM’s reactors offers the possibility for dramatic efficiency gains in the process of treating water, thereby reducing the requirement for chemicals in the process.
UV‐Ultrasonic treatment for water provides significant benefits for water re‐use. Holding tanks, re‐use and irrigation systems and wash waters can all be protected from contamination with ASMR reactor systems.

The addition of Ozone injection to create a UV‐Ultrasonic‐Ozone system further improves performance creating a very reliable and efficient process that is also easy to manage and is adjustable for various water supply characteristics.

The efficacy of the treatment process is a function of the time and the intensity of ultrasound and UV combined with Ozone to which the water/fluid is exposed.

 

Ultraviolet ASMR‐reactors use fourteen 1.6m long x 30mm diameter of‐the‐shelf  UV tubes each surrounded with a plastic/quartz sleeve. The germicidal each have a recommended working life of 9000-13,000 hours and an alarm will sound when a tube requires replacement.

The system can be programmed to shut‐down after a user‐defined period if no one acts on the alarm to change the tube(s).
Unlike competing products that reply on mechanical wipers to keep the UV tubes clean, the violent cavitation reaction in ASMR‐reactors does the job continuously without the damage that mechanical cleaning can cause to the quartz sleeves.

The performance of ultraviolet in killing pathogens in the water supply is directly proportional to the exposure time of the organisms to the ultraviolet radiation and this in turn is proportional to the surface area of the lamps, multiple small diameter lamps offering far greater surface area than relatively few (e.g.2) large diameter lamps.

ASMR‐reactors provide an exposure area 5 to 10 x that of competing systems.

The US Standard for UV exposure for water treatment is 32MJ/cm2 whereas ASMR‐reactors achieve more than double that in many cases. ASMR systems are all equipped with sensors so that an alarm will sound if the UV exposure drops below the set level.

ULTRASONIC

ASMR series reactors employ ten stainless steel ultrasonic transducers carefully positioned along and around the reaction chamber to produce catastrophic levels of cavitation within the reactor chamber.
The ultrasonic frequency range of the transducers is programmable to suit differing applications.

OZONE

The ASMR‐reactors are available with or without ozone injection.
Ozone injected prior to the ASMR‐reactor is completely destroyed in the reactor; no residual ozone is expelled
into the water or the environment. The combined ultrasonic/ozone process results in an extremely violent cavitation reaction inside the reactor destroying most living material that passes through the chamber.


ASMR‐reactors eliminate this waste of expensive chlorine, cavitation caused by the ultrasonic waves in the reactor means the chlorine is not required to help keep the chamber and lamps clean, so the chlorine can be introduced to the water after the reactor and only the lesser amount required to achieve the desired in‐water residual level is necessary.
ASMR treatment systems destroy bacteria, algae, spores and viruses without leaving residual chemicals and are an excellent choice for eliminating biological contamination of most water supplies.     Brochure
